Love
An amazing man who helps kids know that the should wait to their married to do certain things said that the definition of love is "choosing the highest good for the other person." Now I that has a lot to do with love, but I don't think that it's the definition. I think that love is so incredibly special and sacred that it is impossible to define or describe it, but i'll give it my best shot. Love is something that is in your heart that is so complete and amazing that it makes you "Choose the highest good for the other person." Choosing the highest good for the other person is what happens when you are in love. It helps you understand that you are in love, you choose the highest good for the person no matter what and you don't have to think about what the consequences could be for you, only the person in front of you matters. I think that when we subconsciously do this for all around us and don't feel the need to spite them or trick any one of them, then we know the truth of what Jesus our savior meant when he said "love thy neighbor" and "as I have loved you love one another." Because to love isn't to shower some one in gifts, or to feel a natural affection for them, it is to no matter what they or anyone else thinks of you, you will do what is best for them, and love them more each time you do it.

Well said, Julia.
ReplyDeleteI think that love can still be a choice, though. Like, you might not love someone, but you keep choosing the highest good for them anyway, you will grow to love them. Like service.
ReplyDeleteRight, but I think you would have to love some one at least a little to do that in the first time. Like I said "you will do what is best for them, and love them more each time you do it."
ReplyDeleteJust found a quote by President Gordon B Hinckley that goes really well with this post: "True love is not so much a matter of romance as it is anxious concern for the well being of one's companion."
